On November 7, On A Friday kicked off its rooftop series and hosted Emperor X, Spitzer Space Telescope, and Old Hannah. We thought the show was a success and we were very happy with the turn out-- thanks to those of you who were a part of it.

On a personal level, the show was a proud moment where good people and good music joined together in an usual but beautiful scenery. A lot of thought and care went into the planning and execution of the afternoon. I'm so glad the show went well and that the weather (or sun, at least) was on our side.

Old Hannah started the night off with an interactive, emotive performance including original and traditional folk songs, just as the sun was about to set. Spitzer Space Telescope was next with his vibrant set. During his song, "California Condor," Spitzer asked Old Hannah's Tyler Bussey to sing along with him while the two danced a seated jig.

California's Emperor X was up third, accompanied by a guitar orchestra composed of musicians from the Boston music scene. The group formed a line and filed through the tight rooftop crowd, with Emperor X shouting, "Everybody come closer! This is going to be a warm concert!"

He played a collection of his catchiest, most engaging songs (the majority of them from his latest album, Blythe Archives, Volume Two), asking the audience to sing along on some lines. The guitar orchestra was an innovative idea--the group used their guitars for percussion, drone support, and headstock/high-pitch plucking, such as the work on Emperor X's second live song, "Addison Aceh."

Thank you to the musicians--the show was a success because your performances were so genuine and inviting. We're so happy to have been able to share your music and talent with our Boston friends. Readers, please continue to support Emperor X and check out his music at http://www.emperorx.net.
