Dan Deacon is heading back out on tour including a stop at the Pozen Center at MassART on November 8th. While on tour he will be entertaining a nearly impossible poster contest that you can read about below. To win it you must identify every monster on that poster with the exception of around 10 that are already filled out for you, however the prize is definitely worth the effort (if you have the necessary free time).

Real Estate Reveals Debut LP + Fall Tour Dates

realestate_ST.jpgLong-watched NJ beach-pop band Real Estate now has a release date for their self-titled full-length debut. That date is November 17th, however, prior to that, they will complete a full North East tour spanning from D.C. to as far as Chicago and Quebec. The dates themselves are very New York centric: for example if you happen to be in town for CMJ you can catch them as many as 6 times in 5 days, however they will only hit up Boston one time. That date is November 7th when they will stop by the Great Scott with fellow dreamy low-fi duo Girls (out of SF). We (along with stereogum and to an extent NME) highly recommend you check them out and consider attending the show.

Album Tracklist and Complete Tour Dates below...
missionofburma_MIT.jpgTo promote their new record, The Sound The Speed The Light, which comes out October 6th (via Matador), Mission Of Burma will be playing a free all-ages Sunday afternoon show for all of Boston on October 4th in the MIT Courtyard. They also are having a competition to determine who opens the show, the only requirement being that you are willing to play for free. Read more including the official release below.

I'd like to think that by now you're all aware that Mission Of Burma's new album, The Sound The Speed The Light, is coming out on October 6th (and is available for pre-order here). What I can tell you now is that the trio of Clint Conley, Roger Miller & Peter Prescott will be playing a free, all-ages outdoor show on the East Campus Courtyard of MIT just two days earlier, at 2pm on Sunday, October 4th.

Not only is this an unprecedented celebration of Mission Of Burma in their hometown, it's also an opportunity for YOU (or maybe one of your friends if you're not musically-inclined) to open for one of the greatest bands of all time. That's right, it's the Battle For Burma, an online battle of the bands where your band can vie for an opening slot at this very special show. To submit your band, click on this image below and upload a video of yourselves performing:

The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 25, and the winner will be hand-picked by Mission Of Burma. Contest is open to ANY band, as long as you're cool with playing for free.

More details to come, but for now, mark your calendars, because October 4th is going to be an unusually great day at MIT. (via Matablog)

So there's probably not much of a reason to miss this show unless you're unlucky enough to be working Sunday afternoons. Music starts at 2, its free, all ages, and pretty accessible via the red line from Park Street (or just about anywhere else). We'll be covering it, and you should go.

As someone really had it with modern cinemas gimmicks and advances, I have to say, this looks really fucking gorgeous. Shot on 16mm and really old Super 8 by Charlie Fink of Noah and the Whale, "The First Days of Spring" is the new film/album by British twee-pop (no-longer) band Noah And The Whale. From the looks of the trailer, the new album marks a subtle departure from their previously charmingly melodramatic pop to a slightly darker yet more somehow more intimate and even optimistic soundscape.

When I spoke with their tour manager while they were on tour last he told me they were trying for a more experimental sound a la 'Wilco' (re: Charlie Fink laying down his guitar and playing it via Ebow/electric toothbrush combination). While I was and still am a little doubtful of the reference, to say they succeeded in sculpting their already unique sound into something that has true emotional weight and pairing it with an honest and appropriately bleak aesthetic wouldn't be doing the change justice.

The song you hear over the trailer, 'Blue Skies', which be the first single off of the album, seems to burn with an eerie aura of honest understanding despite the fact that Noah's history centers around strikingly apathetic lyrics caroling about breakups and lost teenage loves. Following tradition however, the narrative of the album, which will be released in the U.S. on October 6th via Cherrytree Records) centers around the termination of a relationship.

As far as tour dates, west coast shows are listed below. No east coast dates have been announced as of yet but the will be soon.
